Your Story Deserves to Be Heard, You Deserve to Be Seen

*Trigger Warning! Mentions of suicide and suicidal ideation*
September is recognized as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. As one of the global leading causes of mortality, we must do our part to ensure we are aware of the signs one may be experiencing and what we can do to provide ourselves or our loved ones the support they deserve. It is never to0 late to reach out to a loved one or mental health professional to begin one's mental health journey.
In our flyer above, we highlight the more common signs, but people often do not think about the passive symptoms or behaviors also associated with suicide or suicidal ideation. What does that look like? Passive suicide is considered when one approaches daily activities without a care for their wellbeing or safety, or has a general desire to die without having an actual plan or intent to pursue physical actions. One might not even realize that they are having serious thoughts or behaviors such as these as they do not recognize the severity of what they are feeling.
If you or your loved one is experiencing any symptoms associated with passive or direct suicidal ideation, take that brave step to check in with them. Let them know you are there, and that you actively want to be part of their live as much as you want them to be part of yours. The process and journey may not be easy, but it will make all the difference to have that one person who believes in you and believes in your significant impact on this world. Regardless of what mental or emotional struggle someone is experiencing, they deserve to have someone there who is sincerely willing to listen and be there every step of the way of their mental health journey. No matter how long it takes.
Together, we are stronger together.
